Liebster Award

Many thanks to the amazing Yes more blogs for tagging me. All you lovely marshmallows, go follow this amazing blogger! I love his writing style, it’s like a conversation.

The Rules (That I’m Totally Following Exactly)

  1. Thank the person who nominated you, and put a link to their blog on your blog. Try to include a little promotion for the person who nominated you. They will thank you for it and those who you nominate will also help you out as well.
  2. Display the award on your blog — by including it in your post and/or displaying it using a “widget” or a “gadget”. (Note that the best way to do this is to save the image to your own computer and then upload it to your blog post.)
  3. For the 2018 Liebster Award, I will be shaking things up! Write a small post about what makes you passionate about blog posting.
  4. Provide 10 random facts about yourself. (Again this year I’m making this optional. If you wish to engage with your readers it’s a great idea to include random facts about you.)
  5. Nominate 5 – 11 blogs that you feel would enjoy blogging about this award.
  6. List these rules in your post (You can copy and paste from here or simply link to this post.)
  7. Inform the people/blogs that you nominated that they have been nominated for the Liebster award and provide a link for them to your post.
  8. Interview/Q&A. Answer the questions provided by the blog nominating you and leave questions for your nominees.

Q&A

  1. What is your favorite place?
    1. My favorite place is either the library for being so ridiculously awesome or Disney World for being the place of my happiest memories. Or maybe the house I grew up in for being so beautiful. I have lots of favorite places.
  2. If you could have a conversation with anyone, who would it be?
    1. Keefe Sencen from Keeper of the Lost Cities. He’s my favorite book character and I’d love to meet him. He has a wicked sense of humor.
  3. Your most used phrase or word?
    1. Lovely. I use it far too much, but to be fair, it is an awesome word.
  4. What is the best part of blogging?
    1. Commenting and having conversations! I love talking to people all over the world about writing and books and blogging and a whole slew of random stuff.
  5. Name something that makes you laugh.
    1. Shipping individual sugar cubes in the mail.
  6. How do you relax?
    1. Reading!
  7. What do you want to achieve this month?
    1. I want to finish a short story. (Update: The short story has been completed as of 7/23/18)
  8. What is the best song you’ve ever heard?
    1. Mama by My Chemical Romance.
  9. Would you rather fly or read minds?
    1. Neither? Is that an option. I rather like the ground and I don’t really want to fly and reading minds would be awful. First, there’s the whole moral standpoint. Isn’t it an invasion of privacy? Second, I wouldn’t want to listen to everyone’s thoughts all the time. It’d be so distracting and it wouldn’t leave any room for my own thoughts. I also wouldn’t want to listen to every single thought that people think about me. It probably wouldn’t be good for my self-esteem. But if I had to choose one, I’d go with flying, just to avoid the mind reading.
  10. Do you believe we control our own fate?
    1. yes.

Heyo, peeps! Apologies for not following the rules. It’s Scorpion’s (my brother’s) birthday today, and I’m spending time with him, so there was not enough time for all the rules. Some of the less important ones were forgotten.

    1. Thanks!
The shipping single sugar cubes joke was a reference to another post called My Strange Sense of Humor where I talked about how in math class, the teachers as talking about how impractical a 1 inch cubed box would be. A kid next to me said that you could ship a single sugar cube. Nobody else laughed. I spent the rest of class stifling random bursts of laughter.

  1. Congrats!
I’ve been dying forever to go to at least either Disney World or Disneyland. Sounds like it lives up to the hype.
Anyone who chooses to be able to read minds would require a really thick skin, cos let’s face it, we think a lot of terrible things sometimes but I think for the most part we might hear a lot of people saying how badly they need to fart or take a dump lol and I think we might be better off in that case.

    1. Thanks!
Disney World was amazing! I really want to go again. It probably won’t happen this year though because of the trips to Bangladesh and New York twice. I went to Disney World as an older kid, but I wish that I’d gone when I was younger because all the rides and sights and stuff were AMAZING, but you know it’s not real.
Mind reading would be difficult. If I could pick anything, I’d probably go with super speed or invisibility.

      1. Two trips as well, lucky you! I guess the magic might fade away as an adult but you just got to take your rose tinted glasses with you and throw away logic. 🙃
Super speed would be good if you’re running late. Teleportation would be amazing because you wouldn’t even need speed (unless you work in admin and are filing away) and then you can just go on holidays without purchasing a flight ticket, money saved.

      2. We’ve been to New York a ton over the years, but we’ve never actually gone sightseeing or done tourist-y things. We went three times last year, once to visit my sick uncle, once to go to his funeral, and two weeks later for another uncle’s funeral. This year, at least, the reasons for traveling are better. We went the first time for my cousin’s med school graduation party and next week we’re going to my other cousin’s wedding.
I will rock those rose tinted glasses. Logic never made any sense anyway. DISNEY WORLD, I’M COMING EVENTUALLY.
For traveling, teleportation would be awesome, but with super speed, you could get all your work done fast, read books faster, etc. It’s basically adding more hours to a day.

      3. Wow… that’s a lot. Sorry to hear about your uncle’s, Insha’Allah if they were good men, may Allah (SWT) grant them Jannah.
Heart over logic ❤️ paha, enjoy it when you go! Aah, wow, I need to save up to go if I remember, that is.
I don’t know, as long as you can apply speed to tasks that you don’t enjoy but if work and the book is fun and enjoyable, wouldn’t it better to savour it and just enjoy the moment? Teleportation gives you safety and a free holiday to another country… and that could mean Disney World. 😉

      4. I imagined super speed as everything else slowing down so I could do more. I guess that’s more power over time?
But since this is all hypothetical anyway, who’s to say I can’t have both super speed and teleportation? 😉

      5. Hmm, I like the idea of everything slowing down… in that case I’ll slow down parties so they never end. 😆
Why pick one when you can pick two if it’s hypothetical? Genie with three superhero wishes. 😎

  2. Mind reading doesn’t imply that you’re forced to listen to everyone’s thoughts all the time. It could just be a power you can activate at will and selectively choose what thoughts you would like to hear. The question doesn’t specify.
I would choose flying tbh. Even if you like the ground, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t gain the power to fly! It’s not like you can’t walk anymore XD
There was a time when Keefe would be one of my favourite characters, but after Lodestar I didn’t like him that much anymore (because he turned out to be a double agent).
I feel like my biggest problem with KOTLC is the near total lack of development in the MCs.
But anyways, congrats on the award!

    1. Even if you could selectively choose whose mind to read, I’d rather not. It’d be kinda mean to look into others minds because I definitely don’t want my mind read. And don’t do to others what you don’t want done to yourself, and all.
Flying would be okay if I didn’t go too high, I suppose. It’d definitely be helpful when I inevitably fall. But if you get to choose a superpower (aside from these two options), I feel like flying wouldn’t be under appreciated if I got it.
But don’t you think that he redeemed himself in Nightfall?

      1. It’s about the choice – nobody ever said you had to use it. And what makes you think you’ll fall?
My problem with Keefe isn’t actually with Keefe himself, but instead with the author, Shannon Messenger.
(Spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn’t read KOTLC)
I absolutely LOVED Neverseen because I thought Keefe was going to go to the dark side! But nooooo, he was actually trying to help Sophie and all.
And let’s not get started on Nightfall. It’s the reason why I wish Shannon just ended the story at Lodestar.

      2. I didn’t mean falling from the sky, I meant tripping and falling in daily life, which I do a lot because I’m really clumsy. Flying would make it so much easier to catch myself.
It’s been so long since I’ve read Nightfall. I can’t remember most of it. I’ll have to reread it soon.
Are you still planning to continue reading the series?

        Like

      3. Yeah I’m still going to continue it. It’s just, I feel like Shannon is trying to reverse every single major plot twist she puts into the series.
        Spoilers:

Keefe goes evil? JK he’s a double agent!
Forkle dead? Well, we have a second one haha!
And then there’s also the putting in unnecessary text and chapters just to make those side characters seem important.
Like srsly, who is Dex? And Biana? And,,,Idk I forgot.
It’s kind of sad watching a series that used to be my favourite series ever go down this path, y’know?
But I’m still going to read it.

      4. Yeah. I thought it was really annoying to have such a HUGE cliffhanger in Lodestar and then solve everything in a few chapters in Nightfall. It’s like she’s toying with our emotions.

      5. Yeah. But my problem with the series is that Shannon just reverses all potential plot points for her characters to actually grow. Her characters have been more or less static over the whole series, perhaps with some small exceptions. I was looking forward to an edgy, badass, evil Keefe, cuz that would’ve been the coolest development ever, but nah, he’s the same as ever but he’s just pretending to be bad.
The three main characters have been pretty fleshed out and built well, but they aren’t changing much at all. Especially for a series that’s happening across multiple years, and their teenagers at that, they should be experiencing some changes in paradigm or personality.
